A Wabash man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for a 2023 shooting in Elaine that resulted in the death of an unborn child.
Treyton Russell, 23, pleaded guilty to Second-Degree Murder and First-Degree Battery on Monday, March 2, as part of a plea agreement. He received 15 years for each charge, to be served concurrently in the Arkansas Department of Corrections.
The charges stem from an April 2023 incident on Oak Street in Elaine, where Parneisha Slater, 30, who was approximately 25 weeks pregnant, and Sandy Williams, 38, were shot multiple times through their apartment window. Both women were airlifted to Regional One Health Medical Center in Memphis for treatment. A child who was inside the apartment at the time was not injured.
Slater’s unborn baby, Paisley, did not survive the shooting, leading to the murder charge against Russell.
The Phillips County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division. Russell was arrested at his Wabash home on April 9, 2023, and was initially charged with two counts of First Degree Battery before the charges were upgraded.
