U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) announced Wednesday that National Border Patrol Council President Paul Perez will attend President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address next week as his guest.
Cornyn, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee Subcommittee on Border Security and Immigration, said Perez plays a key role in advocating for border security policies and resources for Border Patrol officers.
“As president of the National Border Patrol Council, Paul Perez plays an integral role in advocating for the policies needed to ensure the border is secure and our brave Border Patrol officers have the resources necessary to enforce federal immigration law,” Cornyn said.
Perez said he was honored to accept the invitation on behalf of Border Patrol agents.
“Senator Cornyn has long been a strong advocate for the National Border Patrol Council and he has always supported President Trump’s priorities; one of the most important being to secure our nation’s borders,” Perez said.
Cornyn and the National Border Patrol Council have worked together on border security measures, including the Working Families Tax Cuts Act, which included federal funding for immigration enforcement and secured reimbursement for the State of Texas for costs associated with Governor Abbott’s Operation Lone Star.
The State of the Union address is scheduled for Feb. 24.
