Conway County sheriff, ASP identify 1994 homicide victim after more than 30 years

MORRILTON, Ark. — The Conway County Sheriff’s Office and Arkansas State Police have identified a 1994 Jane Doe homicide victim as Jamie Ann Moore of Conway, according to a joint release issued Thursday.

Moore would have been 32 years old at the time of her death, officials said.

Investigators said Moore’s body was found Oct. 24, 1994, along railroad tracks near U.S. Highway 64 between Morrilton and Plumerville. The Arkansas State Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide, but the victim’s identity remained unknown for more than 30 years despite continued investigative work.

Authorities said the identification was made through investigative genetic genealogy, which combines DNA analysis with genealogical research to identify unknown victims and develop leads in cold cases.

According to the release, the Conway County Quorum Court in 2016 appropriated funds for Parabon NanoLabs to develop an initial forensic DNA profile and a Snapshot composite image. In 2024, Othram Labs conducted advanced genealogical research that helped identify familial matches. Investigative Genetic Genealogist Stephanie Wyatt developed key leads that led investigators to a possible family member, and testing later confirmed the identification.

On Feb. 19, 2026, the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory completed testing that confirmed the DNA match, officials said.

“The identification of Jamie Moore marks a significant step forward in this investigation and, most importantly, provides long-awaited answers to Jamie’s loved ones,” Conway County Sheriff Mike Smith said. “We are grateful for the partnership and continued support of the Arkansas State Police and the diligent efforts of the Arkansas State Crime Lab, as well as Stephanie Wyatt for her highly specialized work in genetic genealogy that made this breakthrough possible.”

The homicide investigation remains active. Conway County investigators and special agents with the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division continue to review evidence and follow leads, according to the release. Fifteenth Judicial District Prosecutor Tom Tatum II is providing legal guidance and prosecutorial support.
