BAXTER COUNTY, Ark. — A cloth face mask left behind at the scene of a 2023 break-in has led to the arrest of 46-year-old Charles Allsbrooks.
Allsbrooks was taken into custody on July 20 by Officer Garrett Burns of the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office following a long-term forensic investigation.
The Burglary and Evidence
On May 26, 2023, deputies responded to a burglary report at a local vacation home. The property owners arrived after being away since March and discovered their front door had been pried open. An Xbox gaming system, a Roku TV appliance, and a pair of Oakley sunglasses were missing from the residence.
During a walk-through of the home, officers spotted a cloth face mask featuring a New York Yankees logo lying on the bedroom floor at the foot of the bed. Because the homeowners did not recognize the mask, investigators collected it as key evidence and submitted it to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis.
Forensic Match and Arrest
In May 2025, crime lab analysts successfully extracted a DNA profile from the mask, which yielded a direct match identifying Allsbrooks on June 30, 2025.
Although Allsbrooks resided in Jonesboro, law enforcement verified he was in Baxter County around the time of the break-in. Background checks showed he had pawned items at a Mountain Home pawn shop in April 2023 and was arrested in Baxter County on an out-of-state warrant just days before the burglary was discovered.
Allsbrooks has been formally charged with Class B felony Residential Burglary, Class A misdemeanor Criminal Mischief 1st Degree, and Class A misdemeanor Theft of Property. His bond was set at $15,000, and his court appearance is scheduled for August 3, 2026.
