UPDATE: Suspect in Custody After Morning Stabbing on Cox Street; School Lockdown Lifted

UPDATE 2/19/2026, 9:27 a.m. — A suspect is now in custody following a stabbing Thursday morning on Cox Street. Nearby schools have lifted lockdown status, and the victim is reported in stable condition.

According to law enforcement, officers responded around 9:00 a.m. to a reported stabbing and found a victim with apparent stab wounds. Investigators said the suspect fled on foot before later being located and taken into custody.

Police identified the suspect as Nathaniel Vasquez, who was transported to the Saline County Jail. Vasquez is facing the following charges:

  • Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder 1st (A/F)
  • Battery 1st (Y/F)
  • Domestic Battery 3rd (D/F)
  • Aggravated Assault on Family/Household Member (D/F)

Authorities say the investigation remains active.

As with all criminal cases, these charges are allegations, and Vasquez is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
