HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – A man who was allegedly parked after hours in a public Hot Springs park while naked and using pool noodles to sexually gratify himself has been charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure and several drug-related felonies.
A police officer spotted a Toyota Highlander parked in the Hollywood Park parking lot at about 2:30 a.m. on July 15, according to a probable cause affidavit. The park is closed from 30 minutes after sunset to 30 before sunset daily.
As the officer approached the car, he noticed a man later identified as Michael Shane Barrett “moving rapidly in an up and down motion,” the affidavit said.
Barrett, 48, was allegedly “removing a pool noodle flotation device from his penis and covering himself up with a sheet” as the officer got closer to the car.
“I observed several pool noodles which had been fashioned into a male masturbation device using the dog waste bags from Hollywood Park and tape,” the affidavit said.
The officer further noted an open container of Vaseline next to Barrett and allegedly saw that “Barrett and the pool noodle devices were covered in Vaseline.”
“I asked Barrett why he was in a public city park after hours engaging in sexual intercourse with pool noodles,” the affidavit said. “Barrett stated he came to the park because he just had an urge to do it.”
After Barrett was taken into custody, the Highlander was searched by officers. They reportedly discovered a quantity of suspected methamphetamine and a clear glass pipe with burn marks in the glove box. A THC vape device was allegedly found as well.
Barrett is currently being held in the Garland County detention center with bails totaling $8,500.
He has been charged with misdemeanor indecent exposure, loitering and possession of marijuana. He is facing felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Barrett faces three to ten years in prison, a fine up to $10,000, or both if convicted of possessing methamphetamine. If convicted of possessing drug paraphernalia, he faces up to six years in prison, a fine up to $10,000, or both.
The misdemeanor charges are punishable by time in the county jail.
