GREENWOOD, Ark. — An 18-year-old Greenwood man was charged Monday with raping a child under 14.

JJ Daniel Rodgers was charged in the Greenwood District of Sebastian County Circuit Court with one count of rape, a Class Y felony, for an offense prosecutors say took place Oct. 2. He was arrested the next day and booked into the Sebastian County jail.

The information, signed by Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Noah Strom, accuses Rodgers of engaging in sexual intercourse or deviate sexual activity with a child younger than 14. No affidavit describing the allegation was in the court file Tuesday.

Rape of a child under 14 carries 25 to 40 years or life in prison. Rodgers had no prior cases in Arkansas court records.
