ASP Investigating Early Morning Homicide in Warren

WARREN, Ark. — The Warren Police Department has requested that the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division initiate a homicide investigation after a deceased individual was discovered in Warren early Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

At approximately 12:50 a.m., WPD received a 911 call reporting a man lying on the ground outside an apartment in the 900 block of Halligan Street. Officers arriving on the scene located a gunshot victim identified as Billy Wayne Smith, 53, of Warren.

The Bradley County Coroner pronounced Smith dead at the scene.

Smith will be transported to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory, where the manner and cause of death will be determined.
