Marked Tree Police Officer Trevor Howard, 25, Killed In On-Duty Crash

MARKED TREE, Ark. — A Marked Tree police officer was killed and another officer was injured early Sunday morning when a vehicle ran a stop sign and struck their patrol car, according to Arkansas State Police.

Officer Trevor Howard, 25, of Marmaduke, was pronounced dead after the two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Arkansas 14 and Broadway at approximately 2:40 a.m. on June 28, 2026.

Howard was on duty and riding in the passenger seat of a 2023 Dodge patrol vehicle driven by fellow Marked Tree Police Department Officer Anthony Johnson, 22, of Paragould, when the crash occurred.

According to the Arkansas Department of Public Safety, Karrem Jones, 28, of Marked Tree, was traveling north on Broadway in a 1996 Mercury when he ran a stop sign and crashed directly into the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, causing it to overturn.

Johnson was transported to NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro with non-life-threatening injuries. Jones was airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis with serious injuries.

Roads were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash, according to the state police report.

Howard began working full-time for the Marked Tree Police Department in May 2026.

Arkansas State Police continue to investigate the crash.
