A Mammoth Spring woman died Tuesday, January 6, 2026, after her vehicle left the roadway and overturned multiple times on US Highway 62 near Gum Springs Circle in Salem, according to the Arkansas State Police.
Mary Bates, 78, was driving a 2020 Nissan Rogue westbound on Highway 62 when the vehicle departed the roadway, struck a fence, traveled down an embankment, and overturned multiple times. The crash occurred at approximately 1:54 p.m. in Fulton County.
Bates was transported to Cox Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Weather conditions at the time of the crash were clear, and the road surface was dry. Her remains were held at Ozark Funeral Home.
The Arkansas State Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
