A 77-year-old Fayetteville man was killed Friday, January 2, 2026, after a scooter crash on US Highway 412 near Hindsville in Madison County, according to the Arkansas State Police.
Jan D. Dexter, 77, was fatally injured when the 2022 Sprint scooter he was operating was struck by a 2023 Nissan traveling eastbound on US 412. The crash occurred at approximately 11:22 a.m. near the intersection of US 412 and US 412B West.
According to the preliminary crash report, Dexter was traveling westbound on US 412 when he attempted to turn onto US 412B West and failed to yield to the oncoming Nissan. The eastbound Nissan then struck Dexter’s scooter. Conditions at the time of the crash were cloudy with wet road surfaces.
Dexter was transported to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. His body was released to the Washington County Coroner. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the crash. The Arkansas State Police are leading the investigation.
