A 29-year-old Trumann man was killed in the early morning hours of Thursday, January 15, 2026, after being struck by a vehicle while standing in a travel lane on Interstate 555 northbound near the 30-mile marker in rural Poinsett County.
Jared H. Smith, 29, of Trumann, was outside of a vehicle and standing in a lane of traffic as a result of a previous crash when he was struck by a 2003 Dodge Ram traveling northbound on I-555. The collision was reported at approximately 5:43 a.m. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
Weather conditions at the time of the crash were clear, and the roadway was dry, according to the crash report. The Arkansas State Police is investigating the incident.
Smith’s remains were transported to Emerson Funeral Home following the crash.
