A 29-year-old Alexander man was killed late Monday night, March 9, 2026, after driving the wrong way on Interstate 40 near Mayflower and colliding head-on with a commercial truck, according to the Arkansas State Police.
Brett Springfield, 29, of Alexander, was pronounced dead at the scene. Springfield was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-40 near the 135 mile marker in Faulkner County when his 2025 Toyota RAV4 struck a 2020 Freightliner that was traveling westbound. The crash occurred at approximately 11:56 p.m.
Weather conditions at the time of the crash were clear, and the road surface was dry, according to the crash report. The Arkansas State Police are leading the investigation into the incident.
Springfield’s body has been remanded to the Faulkner County Coroner’s Office. No additional injuries were reported in connection with the crash.
